Language Lessons

A Russian(?) couple stopped me on the way home and asked if I knew where there were English language schools in the area. I ummed and ahhed for a moment and suggested the local library tomorrow. They seemed pleased with the suggestion and I hope it's helpful. It occurred to me that, in general, a native English speaker wouldn't know that information.

I haven't cooked with chillis at home for ages, so I thought I'd ease myself back in gently. I bought a small red one and used half of it (no seeds). Infused it with some garlic olive oil for a few minutes, then added some prawns (the last of them), while some spaghetti was boiling. Added a little more oil and some black pepper to the spaghetti, then mixed in the prawns and chillis. Lovely - but will add more chilli next time.

Next week, Pub Quiz (hope some aspects of the company won't be awkward) and then Writing Group. It's Greek food at the Appollonia for the writing group this time. Must get on with my piece for then.

Late sleeping and Jack Good

Woke at 9.25, then fell back to sleep - more late sleeping.

Some reading and posting on the Graun boards, then cooked stir-fry (as per last night) with the remaining ingredients.

Watching the Jack Good documentary as I write.

Drilling, Columbo and Shouty Man

Was awoken by drilling at 10.00 this morning. A van is parked over the road, with some workmen poking around in a large hole. Fell back asleep until 14.00.

The water is off (hence the van). There was enough water in the kettle for a cup of tea, but I reckoned I'd need to buy some bottled water from the shop to keep me going. Watched a bit of an old Columbo, Publish or Perish. I'd seen it before, with Jack Cassidy and that man with the really sad eyes who was in that bizarre babysitting film the other night. Kept putting off going to the supermarket without showering, but I knew it was inevitable.

Water back on at 16.30, so showered and mooched to the shops. Shouty Man was standing by the jeweller's, shouting. Haven't seen him for ages. The area was as busy as ever. Picked up my food.

Had an idea for a murder mystery novel that involves insurance.

Cooked a big stir-fry with prawns, mushrooms, spring onions, hoi-sin sauce and noodles.
